Washington County Arrest Records and Court Charges
Arrest records describe the law-enforcement and custody side of an incident. In Washington County, the Sheriff's Office jail tools may show adults in custody, charges, bail or security amount, and recent arrest or release activity. Those records do not decide guilt. They show that an arrest or custody event occurred and list information available from jail or agency records.
Court charges after arrest are different. The Washington County District Attorney's Office prosecutes crimes that occur in the county. When formal charges are filed, the court case can show the charging document, arraignment, plea, amendments, dismissal, judgment, and sentence. The full outcome belongs in the criminal case file, while the arrest-to-charges path explains how the booking record and prosecutor-filed charges connect.
The Washington County DA public records page gives the official request route for DA records.
Use the DA channel for prosecuting-office records, not for the court's official case register or jail custody roster.
Find Washington County Arrest Records
The custody side begins with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The county's "Who is in Custody?" search is a public jail lookup, and the 24-hour arrest and release log shows recent arrest or release activity. The court side begins with OJD case search, OJCIN, courthouse terminals, and Circuit Court Records Department copy requests.
- Use the Sheriff's custody search to check current jail custody and visible charges.
- Use the 24-hour arrest and release log for recent arrest or release activity.
- Search OJD court records for the filed case and formal court charge entries.
- Request police reports from the creating agency and DA records from the DA custodian when needed.
- Use the criminal case file for plea, disposition, sentence, and final court outcome.
The Sheriff's public records and documents page explains the Criminal Records Section request process.
Sheriff's records are reviewed before release, and active investigations, juvenile records, medical records, and security-sensitive records may be restricted.
Charges Filed After Arrest
After an arrest, the listed jail charge may not be the final court charge. The prosecutor reviews police reports and evidence, then files or declines charges. A court charge record begins when the charging document enters the court case. Oregon research for this project supports the practical categories below without promising that every Washington County case will use every document type.
| Document | Who files or authorizes it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Complaint | Prosecutor or law-enforcement-based charging route | Starts or supports a criminal accusation in court. |
| Information | Prosecutor | Lists formal charges filed by the DA without using a grand-jury indictment. |
| Indictment | Grand jury through prosecution process | Charges an offense after grand-jury action. |
Washington County charge records can also reflect local programs and reforms. The county deflection program involves Health and Human Services, the DA, Sheriff's Office, Community Corrections, law enforcement, and community providers for eligible controlled-substance possession cases.
Charge Status in Washington County
Charge status can change as the case moves. A charge may be pending at arraignment, amended after negotiation, reduced through plea discussions, dismissed by motion, or affected by appellate law. That is why court charges after arrest must be read with the latest docket and disposition, not just a jail intake listing.
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Pending | The charge is active and has not reached final disposition. |
| Amended | The filed charge was changed by prosecution action or court process. |
| Reduced | The charge level or offense changed to a lesser charge. |
| Dismissed | The charge was ended without a conviction on that count. |
| Set aside | An eligible arrest, citation, charge, or conviction received Oregon set-aside relief. |
The Washington County 24-hour arrest and release log is one official custody-side tool.
When the log and the court docket differ, verify the court charge status through OJD, OJCIN, or the court clerk.
Custody Charges and Bail
The Washington County custody search says the public report is generally updated every two hours. It requires reCAPTCHA and lets users search by the first letter of the last name. It links VISOR for victim notification and explains that "security" means the amount of bail that must be paid. The jail phone is 503-846-2600.
| Custody field | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Adult in custody | The person is listed in the jail custody system. |
| Charge | The jail-listed offense or charge tied to custody. |
| Security | The bail amount that must be paid, according to the county custody page. |
| Release status | Whether the person appears in custody or in the recent release log. |
The custody and releases page explains the jail's public search and bail/security wording.
The Who is in Custody search is the county's current jail lookup.
For the full case file and outcome, move from custody lookup to the Circuit Court criminal court record.
Charges vs. Convictions
A charge is an allegation filed or listed in the arrest-to-court process. A conviction is a court outcome based on a plea or verdict. Washington County arrest records may show a charge at custody intake. The court case may later show that the charge was amended, reduced, dismissed, or resulted in conviction.
| Point | Charge | Conviction |
|---|---|---|
| Meaning | Accusation or filed offense | Final guilt result by plea or verdict |
| Where seen | Custody search, DA records, court docket | Court judgment, disposition, sentence |
| Can change | Yes, by amendment, reduction, or dismissal | May be appealed or set aside if eligible |
Sealed and Set-Aside Charges
Restricted records include juvenile charges, sealed cases, set-aside records, and protected personal details. ORS 137.225 governs setting aside eligible convictions, arrests, citations, and charges. ORS 419A.255 restricts juvenile court records. OJD excludes adoption, juvenile, mental health, and VAWA-related records from the free online records and calendar service.
| Point | Restricted or sealed | Set aside |
|---|---|---|
| Effect | Public access is withheld or limited | Eligible arrest, citation, charge, or conviction is treated under Oregon set-aside relief |
| Common source | Statute, court order, case type, or safety rule | ORS 137.225 motion and court order |
| What to check | Court access rule and authorized status | Eligibility, forms, prosecutor response, and final order |
DA Records and Defense Context
DA public-records requests must be in writing and addressed to Joel Petersen, WCDA Public Records Custodian, with the subject marked ATTN: WCDA Public Records Custodian. Requests can be sent by email to DAPublicRecordsRequest@washingtoncountyor.gov, by mail to 150 N First Avenue, Suite 300, MS-40, Hillsboro, OR 97124-3002, or by fax to 503-846-8707. Narrow, detailed requests are faster, and ORS 192.324 fees may apply.
The public defense system is state-administered through the Oregon Public Defense Commission. Metropolitan Public Defender is a trial-level public defense provider with offices serving Washington County. Defense records are not the same as court records, but defense appointment and public defense issues may appear in the court docket or related court notices.
Recent Washington County Charge Context
Recent DA and county notices show why charge status should be verified from current official records. On December 8, 2025, the DA announced motions to dismiss charges in 20 drug-endangered children cases after an Oregon Court of Appeals decision. On February 19, 2026, the DA announced deflection program results for eligible controlled-substance possession cases. These are examples of prosecution and policy events that can affect charging paths.
The DA's December 2025 dismissal notice is one source assigned to this page.
Current charge status should always be read from the official court case and the responsible agency's records, not from old news or a stale custody entry.
Restricted Charge Records in Washington County
